3 Ways the 2017 Ram Power Wagon Gets the Job Done

The story behind the Dodge Ram Power stretches all the way back to World War II. In fact, the original 1946 Power Wagon was based on Dodge’s WC series of military trucks. It was heralded as the first civilian 4×4, representing Dodge’s pioneering spirit. Motorists have many reasons to choose this powerhouse of a pickup.

Exceptional Off-Road Capabilities

The 2017 Ram Power Wagon is a 2500 Heavy Duty Crew Cab with equipment modifications that are specifically selected to make it one of the most off-road-capable machines available to the public today. For example, the underbody skid plates protect not only the transfer case but shield the fuel tank as well. Its 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires are off-road champions, yet ride smoothly and quietly on pavement as well. Its ample 14.3-inch ground clearance allows the Power Wagon to cross bodies of water up to 30 inches deep.

Any off-road enthusiast knows that the heart of a true dirt digger is in its suspension. The Power Wagon features a three-link front suspension with an electronically disconnecting sway bar. When things get rough, disconnect the sway bar for incredibly enhanced wheel articulation. It boasts a five-link rear suspension, with Bilstein monotube shocks supporting all four corners (unlike the rear leaf springs found on lesser trucks).

Inside, you’ll find tech features that are perfect for avid off-roaders. The front and rear axles can be locked electronically right from the cab, for example. The Power Wagon also boasts a Hill Descent Mode that allows you to creep down steep, rocky inclines while keeping both hands on the wheel for optimum control. Your speed in this mode, as low as 1.2 mph, is controlled with your shifter buttons so you can keep both feet on the floor as well.

With a payload capacity of around 1,500 pounds and the ability to tow over 10,000, the Power Wagon is a job site on wheels. Its standard Warn winch has a capacity of 12,000 pounds and comes in handy for more than pulling less-competent vehicles of out the mud. It can also be used for any number of construction, landscaping, and demolition purposes.
