4 Best Diners in Arlington

Diners are more than a place to stop and grab a hot cup of joe and some tasty eats. They’re a piece of Americana and a gateway to the past when sock hops, chrome fenders, and pompadours reigned. Blue Bird Cafe

Steps away from Stilly is Blue Bird Cafe, another fine downtown option. Here you’ll find the old-timey diner look replete with classic cars and pickup truck imagery. Some folks would say that the food at Blue Bird is closer to the days of yore when liberal amounts of butter and grease were used, but everyone agrees that it’s worth that extra time at the gym.

Blue Bird is famous for their blueberry pancakes, which have been compared to manhole covers (in size, not taste). Try one of their handmade shakes, sample their savory clam chowder, and enjoy some of the best hash browns in town. Fans advise hitting Blue Bird for breakfast and perhaps finding other spots if you’re looking for dinner options.

Ellie’s

Located on 168th SE is this beloved destination. Like Stilly, Ellie’s is a top-10 pick on TripAdvisor. The wood-paneled interior is homey, inviting, and clean, and service here is extraordinarily friendly. They’ll even split dishes for you by request, perfect for sharing with your little ones. If you don’t get their homemade blackberry jam, ask for it! Be sure to try their waffles, replete with whipped cream and strawberries, or challenge yourself with their gigantic Paul Bunyan breakfast. There are cheaper options elsewhere, but the portion sizes make up for it.

Nomz Diner

Just down the road in Marysville is Nomz, a cool and laidback eatery with the checkered floors, vinyl booths, and groovy decor you’d expect of a classic diner. Savor their breakfast burger with bacon, eggs, and homemade hollandaise sauce, or opt for your typical classic six-egg omelet (don’t panic, they have three-egg versions too). Lunch is also awesome here, with BLTs and French dip sandwiches straight from heaven.
