Dodge Grand Caravan vs. Chrysler Town & Country: What One Should You Choose

The Dodge Caravan and the Chrysler Town & Country are both minivans based on the same platform. They have several similarities, but they are also very different. Many drivers consider the Caravan more sporty, while the Town & Country is the luxury vehicle. Here is some information about both vehicles to help you decide which one to choose.

The Exterior

The exterior of the Caravan has a more boxy style while the Town & Country rounds off the edges. The Town & Country also features the signature Chrysler grille, and it comes with LED taillights. The Caravan has the crosshair grille from Dodge, and it also comes with LED taillights.

The Interior

The interior of the Caravan features a single tone color scheme, while the Town & Country has wood grain panels. The Town & Country comes standard with some additional features and options such as leather upholstery and a backup camera. You can also get three-zone climate control in the Chrysler, along with a power liftgate and power doors.

Trim Levels

The 2016 Caravan comes in six different trim levels starting with the base, no-nonsense AVP trim. This will get you 17-inch steel wheels, dual zone air conditioning, and a four-speaker audio system. The base level Chrysler is the LX model. This comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, a roof rack, and power sliding doors. The base model Chrysler also comes with the Stow ‘n Go seating and storage system, while you need to add it as an option in the base Dodge. If you are looking for a minivan and want to keep the price down, the AVP Dodge Caravan is a great vehicle, but if you want to pay more, and get more options, then the Town & Country is the way to go.

The Engine

Both vehicles come with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 283 horsepower. They both have a six-speed automatic transmission, and they come with front wheel drive. You can expect to get about 20 miles per gallon combined, with 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.  Both of these vans offer similar driving and riding experiences, with quick acceleration, and the strong V6 engine is powerful enough to carry a vehicle filled with passengers, or cargo if you want to flip the seats down.

Safety Features

Both models come with many safety features, including antilock disc brakes and traction and stability control. They both have active front head restraints, and full-length side curtain airbags. The Town & Country comes standard with a rearview camera and if you bump up to the Touring-L trim and above, you’ll also get blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert. Both the Dodge Caravan and the Chrysler Town & Country have something to offer. If you’re looking for more luxury and features, then the Town & Country is your van, but if you prefer a sportier look without all the fuss, then the Caravan is a good choice.
