What is Ram eTorque?

Ram eTorque─which any of the all-new 2019 Ram 1500s can be outfitted with─involves equipping the model’s engine crankshaft with a motor generator. (The 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine actually comes with eTorque standard).

For the V-6 engine: eTorque output is 12 horsepower + 39 lb-ft of torque, for an assist of 90 lb-ft.  

For the V-8 Hemi engine: eTorque output is 16 horsepower + 49 lb-ft of torque, for an assist of 130 lb-ft.

Hauling enthusiasts will also be thrilled to learn that the towing capability of the V-8 engine is Best-in-its-Class (this ranking is based on Light-Duty pickups).

What Can Dodge Ram Tow?

While some are numbers people, others take a “tell me what this all means!” position, which is why we should also mention what the above numbers add up to, in terms of practicality. The 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 configuration that gives you the most bang for your towing buck is the 4×2 Quad equipped with a 5.7L V8 HEMI MDS VVT Engine w/ BSG. This configuration achieves a GVWR of 6,900 lbs., a GCWR pf 18,200 lbs., and a max trailer weight rating of 12,750 lbs. This makes it, in theory, capable of towing such items as:

• Trailers that are less than 24 ft.
• Recreational vehicles
• Non-recreational vehicles
• Mobile offices
