Enjoy Nature at These 4 Everett Area Spots
With many national parks and forests in the area, Everett is a great jumping-off point for nature enthusiasts looking for their next adventure. Whether you’re an avid outdoorsman or simply want to reconnect with nature on the trail this weekend, here are some noteworthy spots to check out.
Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest
Located about two and a half hours from Everett, Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest is one of the country’s most visited wooded preserves. Discover breathtaking mountain meadows, ice-covered peaks, and old-growth forests between the Canadian border and Mt. Rainier National Park.
Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest is situated in the Cascade Mountains extending 140 miles from Seattle to Vancouver. Visitors can tour the woodland, go fishing, watch birds, go river rafting, or try snowshoeing. No matter your outdoor interests, this national forest offers a magnificent backdrop for those firsthand experiences.
Mount Rainier National Park
At 14,410 feet above sea level, Mount Rainier is a rugged beast ascending from the Washington landscape. The active volcano is one of the country’s most glaciated peaks. It’s so large, in fact, that Mount Rainier spawns six major rivers.
There’s plenty to do at Mount Rainier National Park, even if you’re just up for a scenic drive. Most roads are open from late May to early October, providing access to hiking trails and other fun sites. Explore the many hiking trails to discover indigenous wildflowers, go boating, or pitch a tent to immerse yourself in nature. The park also offers ranger-led programs and fun Citizen Ranger Quests for individuals, groups, or families looking for an educational approach to their adventures.
Olympic National Park
Offering an impressive wildlife diversity and incredible views, Olympic National Park is a state treasure. Over a million protected acres safeguard several different ecosystems, including old-growth temperate rain forests, 70 miles of coastline, and glacier-capped mountains.
In addition to hiking, camping, and fishing, Olympic National Park also offers tide pool activities. When tide-pooling, be sure to visit at low tide and wear sturdy shoes with good traction to avoid slipping on the rocks. Tide-poolers should never remove organisms from their locations in the tide pool, but rather watch them in their natural habitat. This can be a great introduction to nature for children and even adults with interests in the ocean’s biodiversity.
Mount Hood National Forest
If you don’t mind a longer road trip, Mount Hood National Forest is located about five hours from Everett near Portland. The area extends more than 60 miles across lakes, forested mountains, and slopes, offering diverse landscapes for equestrians, hikers, and bicyclists. Visit the popular Timothy Lake recreation area with its family campgrounds, boat ramps, and fishing spots, giving you everything you need for an extended outdoor getaway.
The Pacific Northwest provides ample opportunity to get back to nature, and Everett is the perfect home base. Whether you prefer horseback riding, tide-pooling, or rock climbing, this region offers the right kind of challenge suited to your skill and activity level, so start planning your next outdoor adventure today!
