What is Ram eTorque?

The 2019 Dodge Ram features an eTorque system that boosts its torque output and fuel economy.

The system makes use of the fuel-economy aid of hybridization─more specifically through its belt-drive motor generator, which is connected to a 48-volt battery pack.

When you combine this technology with the new Ram’s 5.7-Liter V8 Hemi Engine the result is up to 130 pound-feet of torque (added to an already 410 pound-feet of torque for a grand total of 540).

What Does eTorque Hybridization Do?

In addition to the aforementioned increase in torque output, eTorque hybridization enables more efficient fuel usage/ greater fuel economy. It achieves this through a variety of features which include Stop-Start Function, Short-Term Torque Assist, and Regenerative Braking.

Stop-Start

This eTorque function makes for shudder-free engine shutdowns and smoother restarts/ gear changes.

Regenerative Braking

This feature gets applied when you lift off the throttle (or lightly brush the brake pedal).

From here, eTorque provides regenerative braking by applying a load to the motor/ generator to produce electrical energy that gets stored in the battery.

Short-Term Torque Assist

After regenerative braking takes place the battery is able to deliver the energy to the motor/ generator as a way of providing torque assistance to the engine. This relieves the engine of its propulsion burden.

The 2019 Dodge Ram 1500

The 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 comes in four trims: Tradesman, Big Horn/ Lone Star, Laramie, and Rebel. The 5.7-Liter V8 Hemi MDS VVT Engine comes standard on the Laramie trim and optional on the other three trims.

Additional features include:

• A payload capacity of 1,710 lbs. (when properly equipped).
