Are Ram Trucks Made By Dodge?
Are Dodge and Ram still the same company?
Most of us die hard Ram owners remember the Dodge Ram separation, but a lot of consumers still see our trucks as the Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 respectively. Officially, in 2009 Ram split from Dodge to become its own brand of truck. This allowed Ram to fully focus on the optimizations and innovations of their truck line without hindrance from the Dodge manufacture.
It isn’t surprising that consumers still see Ram trucks as Dodge Ram since the Ram name was associated with the Dodge truck line for over 70 years. The first run of Dodge Ram trucks began in 1932 and ran through 1954. The Dodge Ram lineup was revitalized again in 1981 where it continued under this moniker until 2009. Under the ownership of FCA it was decided that the two brands should be separate entities. The separation of Dodge from Ram allowed Dodge to focus on technological advancements in their sedans and muscle cars. This allowed Dodge to produce some of the most innovative modern cars like the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. With Ram becoming its own brand it was able to focus all of its resources toward delivering the most reliable and technologically advanced pickups on the market.
The separation of the two brands also meant that facilities could become optimized for research and development of their individual models. FCA has made some of the biggest investments in the industry in the Ram lineup and the Ram facilities. Just recently $1.5-billion was invested in the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (Michigan) to build the next-generation Ram 1500 truck. They also announced Over $1-billion will be invested in expanding the RAM Heavy Duty Truck Assembly Plant. These investments will guarantee that America will always be the leading global manufacturer of Ram Trucks.
While Ram has become independent of Dodge, we still respect the nostalgic consumer that comes in looking for the perfect 2018 Dodge Ram 1500. The Ram brand holds a special place in the hearts of each generation of Ram owner, but whether you call it a Ram 1500, or prefer calling it a Dodge Ram 1500, Ram is still synonymous with dependability, reliability, and capability.
