Tips for Keeping Your Vehicle's Interior Clean
If you find yourself cringing every time you open the car door with fear of something spilling out, it’s time to take control. Although a cleaning regimen in the car can seem tedious and a waste of time, learning a few basic habits could make the world of difference. You may have to take more things into the car to sort out the mess, but it will be worth it. These are some of the top ways to keep that vehicle fresh and clutter-free.
Employ the Services of Some Cleaning Favorites
Those who are familiar with clearing out clutter know that in order to get ahead of the junk, it’s important to be prepared. Instead of just leaving things on the seats or the floor, put them in a trash bag. Keep small trash bags in the interior of the car for items such as discarded soda cans or candy bar wrappers, and a big trash bag in the trunk for larger items. Once this habit is in place, it’s not enough to just place the items in the bags. Take the trash out every time you leave the car. This should also be a family effort to ensure the interior remains clean.
Use Baby Wipes for the Win
Possibly one of the best inventions of all time is the baby wipe. This is a staple in every mom’s baby bag and should form part of your cleaning arsenal too. They come in handy when snacks and sodas spill over. They also happen to be very effective in keeping muck and grime off the car windows. Baby wipes are the perfect defense for sticky fingers, making them a great companion for those who constantly find themselves stuck to the steering wheel. Plus, they smell terrific and come in a variety of sizes. Pocket size wet wipes fit into side panels, and bigger containers fit snugly into the glove compartment or under seats.
Set Boundaries
You don’t have to turn into a drill sergeant to get a good response from your family in an effort to keep the car clean. Every time you leave the car, each family member should take all the stuff they initially brought into the car out of it again. This would include toys, snacks, and clothing. Lead by example and keep at it in order for this to form a habit. Try not to regress into old habits.
Apart from trash and clothing, paperwork can also pile up in the car, especially for those who use it as an office. It can’t necessarily go back into the house and also can’t be thrown out. An effective way to keep this under control is using an expandable file and creating some space for it in the trunk.
Having a clean car will decrease your stress, and it’s easier to keep it clean than to clear it out once it builds up. Once you’ve kept your car clean for 66 days, it will become a habit.
